Understanding critical thinking: A comparative analysis between university students’ and teachers’ conception

Critical thinking is a key competence in higher education. However, little known about the conception that students have of this competence. This study aims to analyze what university understand by critical and if these conceptions agree with those teachers analyzed previous study. A total 263 participants took part The findings reveal tend consider as related reasoning/arguing questioning/asking oneself. Also, students’ differs from teachers. Whereas reasoning/arguing, oneself and, lesser extent, acting/compromising. Teachers, on other hand, analyzing/organizing evaluating. No significant differences were found regarding gender academic year. These results highlight importance considering views when designing curricula learning activities develop thinking.
